When purchasing aluminum profiles, 6063 and 6061 are the two 6-series aluminum alloy grades with the highest market share. They differ significantly in composition, strength, and applicable scenarios. Choosing the wrong one can affect structural stability and service life.
6063-T5
Aluminum Profile: With a balanced magnesium-silicon ratio, it exhibits excellent extrusion formability and a smooth, fine surface finish, making it suitable for various surface treatments such as anodizing, spray painting, and electrophoresis. It possesses medium strength and is primarily used in decorative and light-load scenarios, such as building doors and windows, curtain walls, small equipment frames, and decorative profiles.
6061-T6 aluminum profile: By increasing the magnesium and silicon content and undergoing high-temperature aging treatment, its tensile and yield strength are significantly improved, providing stronger load-bearing and impact resistance capabilities. However, it is more difficult to extrude and its surface fineness is slightly inferior to that of 6063. It is suitable for heavy-duty industrial applications such as large assembly line frames, equipment load-bearing bases, new energy battery trays, and tooling fixtures.
Simple selection guide: For home decoration doors and windows, sunrooms, and lightweight supports, choose 6063-T5; for heavy equipment, heavy-duty racks, and structural components that require long-term pressure resistance, choose 6061-T6. Clearly distinguish between grades to match working conditions and avoid issues such as profile deformation and insufficient load-bearing capacity.
